Waste Management & Recycling

Landfill

The Franklin County Board of Supervisors has adopted a new program for the Spring and Fall Cleanup Program.  The large containers will be rotating at different Box Sites throughout the year.  The large containers will be placed out on Friday and picked up on Tuesday each week.  Basically, the citizens of Franklin County will have the large containers 10 weeks a year versus 4 weeks a year.  The schedule from January - June is listed in the box below:

The collection and disposal of solid waste are among the most important services provided by the County government to its citizens, both private and corporate. Residential waste is collected through a network of waste drop-off sites at convenient locations throughout the County. There are 250 dumpsters (green boxes) available for use at 74 collection sites. Commercial businesses are not allowed to use green boxes.

The Franklin County Department of Solid Waste, operates an approximate 20-acre sanitary landfill that handles 125 to 200 tons of waste and refuse per day that includes in-house recycling of scrap metal and white goods (discarded appliances such as stoves, refrigerators dryers and dishwashers).  Lead acid batteries are not accepted at the Landfill and there is a $1 charge for tires.  All construction debris is based on weight at $32 per ton.  Otherwise, there is no charge to homeowners for this service. The landfill tipping fee for commercial waste is $32 per ton.
