Animal Control

540-483-7440

The Animal Control Division enforces all state and county regulations regarding specific domestic animals.  Officers provide services from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.  Emergencies are handled on a case by case basis during other hours.  All dogs must be vaccinated against rabies and licensed by four months of age.  Annual licenses, issued by the County Treasurer's Office, are $10.00 for female and male not sterilized dogs and $4.00 for male and female sterilized dogs.  A statement from a certified veterinarian indicating that the animal has been spayed must be presented to receive the discounted rate for female dogs.  A certificate of current rabies inoculation is required before a license can be issued.  Stray domestic animals picked up by the Animal Control Division are taken to the Animal Shelter on 220 South.  Animals who have no known owner can be adopted for a fee of $10.00.  The shelter is open Tuesday - Friday 12:00 noon - 4:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 am - 12:00 noon.  CLOSED on Monday and all holidays.
