(Photo by Alpine)G.B. Washburn, Jr. is the son of Hazel Whitehead Washburn and the late Gordon B. Washburn, Sr. of the Snow Creek community of Franklin County. He and his five siblings were raised on a beef cattle and tobacco farm. G.B. participated in many sports while growing up including High School Football. He is a 1982 graduate of the Franklin County School System and obtained BS Degrees in Agricultural Economics and Education from Virginia Tech in 1987. His work experience began in Textiles and shifted to Public Service where he has worked for the US Department of Agriculture for the past 17 years. His work required his family to live all over the state until moving back to Franklin County in 1992.
G.B. has been happily married to the former Krystal Frost for 20 years. They have been blessed with two children, Ashlee-age 15 and Trey-age 12. The entire family is involved in many activities including the Franklin County Family YMCA and Rocky Mount Christian Church. The Washburn's enjoy the country life and love the serenity of Franklin County. They were very fortunate to build a house and live on a farm in the Snow Creek Community that has been in the family for over 100 years. G.B. and his family spend a tremendous amount of time around sports activities which include basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, football, cross country, and swimming.
G.B.'s recent community service began in 1996 when he was elected to the Franklin County School Board. He has served on the Franklin County Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission (RAC) since 2002 and was appointed to the Franklin County YMCA Board of Directors in 2004. G.B also serves as a Treasurer of several Sports Organizations in the County.
