Effective September 1, 2006, the Virginia Department of Fire Programs will award 144 smoke alarms to the Franklin County Department of Public Safety.  The Public Safety Department, as part of its community outreach mission, will then provide free installation of the smoke alarms in residential households (excluding rental properties) that do not have an adequate number of smoke alarms.  Those interested in having smoke alarms installed in their homes may call Franklin County Public Safety at (540) 483-3091.  Smoke alarms will be distributed and installed on a first come-first serve basis.
