HUMAN RESOURCES & RESEARCH ANALYST

Fast growing community known for its scenic beauty, located approximately 10 miles south of Roanoke, VA is currently accepting applications for the position of Human Resources & Research Analyst. The successful candidate will perform a variety of analytical and administrative duties in support of the County Administrator and Assistant County Administrators, including conducting research, operation reviews, preparation of reports, special projects and programs; providing human resource information and assistance to Department Heads; plan, produce, and administer staff and management training programs; conduct programs to develop employee skills and impart organizational practices and policies;  and pre-employment including recruitment and onboarding. WESTLAKE LIBRARY POSITIONS

Franklin County is currently accepting applications for the following Westlake Library positions: 

Branch LibrarianThis position manages the activities of the Westlake branch, including setting work flow priorities; enforcement of appropriate procedures and policies; ensuring the accomplishment of work; and maintaining high quality effective customer service.  Participates in the hiring, training, development and management of branch staff. A bachelor’s degree, with a MLS degree from an accredited ALA library school preferred. Extensive work in a library with supervisory experience required, extensive computer skills preferred with MicroSoft office a must.  Starting Annual Salary: $37,700.

Librarian for Special Services – Performs various functions related to providing library services, outreach programs, including children and senior programs, as well as other reader services as needed.  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree supplemented by coursework in library science or children’s literature and experience in a library setting and/or work with children in an educational setting preferred. Extensive computer skills preferred with working knowledge of MicroSoft Office. Starting Annual Salary:  $31,900.

Part-time Library Aide - The successful applicant will be required to perform routine clerical work in the public library system; assists the public in the use of library facilities; maintains circulation and other appropriate records. Applicants will be required to possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with some experience in general clerical or library work. Computer skills with working knowledge of MicroSoft Office. Salary: $9.62 per hour

PARAMEDIC/FIREFIGHTER
(Part-time)

Franklin County is currently accepting applications for the position of part-time Paramedic/Firefighter.  This position performs difficult protective work in emergency medical services and fire suppression; engages directly in ALS/EMS stabilization procedures at the scene of a medical emergency and transport to medical facilities; engages directly in fire suppression activities and response. COMMISSIONER OF THE REVENUE REAL ESTATE APPRAISER

This is a paraprofessional position whose essential function is to perform complex technical tasks to determine the value of Real Estate within the County.

HEAD LIFEGUARD

Franklin County is currently accepting applications for the seasonal position of Head Lifeguard from May to early September. This position safeguards and regulates the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe practices and accidents by strictly enforcing policies, rules and regulations, is alert to note possible swimmers in distress, and avoids conversation with the public or other distracting influences. Directly oversees all seasonal lifeguards and makes weekly schedules. Assists in preparing and maintaining records concerning accidents, rescues, assists and first aid; cleaning facility and other duties as needed. Must be 18 years old and be a HS graduate or equivalent; possess a valid American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding, which includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid; have a minimum of two years experience as a lifeguard and willing to work weekends and holidays.  For additional information about FREE certification, please contact Parks & Rec @ 483-9238. EXTENSION AGENT

Virginia Tech/Virginia Cooperative Extension invites applications for the following position in Central District - Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agent located in Franklin County, specialty area Animal Science or Crop and Soil Sciences.

An Extension Agent, Agriculture and Natural Resources, provides leadership in determining, implementing, and evaluating educational programs which are designed to solve social, economic, and environmental problems in agriculture and natural resources. The agent is an educator, an information provider, a needs assessor, a problem solving resource for clientele, and networks with the agricultural industry, specialists, Extension agents and agency representatives.

Provides current research-based information to citizens by employing various delivery methods targeted to diverse audiences; works closely with producers, agri-business, community leaders, Extension Leadership Councils and appropriate agents and specialists to identify and prioritize issues, problems and opportunities; uses farm and business visits as a means to remain knowledgeable of specific local needs and problems related to agricultural production, marketing, and environmental protection; fosters communication among agricultural producers, marketers, processors and consumers; maintains a high level of proficiency in subject matter field by participating in in-service training and professional activities; works closely with citizens and local, state, and federal officials to aid Virginia in preparing and responding to natural or other emergencies and disasters.

Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university; master's degree is preferred. A master's degree and promotion to Extension Agent are required no later than the sixth year of employment. Commercial agriculture experience preferred; demonstrated ability to recruit, select, train and manage volunteers; demonstrated ability to lead groups, plan, implement, facilitate, teach and evaluate educational information programs; knowledge and use of computer technology in educational programming and management; excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to work effectively with low income, limited resource and minority audiences; ability to work with minimal supervision in an unstructured setting.
