Franklin County Department of Aging Services' senior center provides a
site where activities and programs geared to the elderly population, can
be enjoyed.
The center is open Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, excluding
holidays.
All persons aged 60 years or older are encouraged to come during these
hours, for rest, recreation, information and assistance.
Services available to Franklin County Citizens aged 60 years and older
are:
Transportation to and from congregate mealsite, socialization
and recreational activities, medical appointments, shopping and other
personal trips, needed services and community agencies.
Specialized Transportation for handicapped individuals...medical
transportation for Medicaid recipients of any age who lack transportation
for medical services. (Advance scheduling is necessary.)
Socialization and Recreation activities to provide persons aged
60 years and older, opportunities to participate in constructive social
experiences and leisure time activities; includes programs, dances, day
trips, special events and ceramics classes.
Free Blood Pressure Screenings by trained volunteers from within
the community.
Congregate Meals provide a nutritional noon-time meal on Monday
and Thursday of each week. Opportunities for non-homebound individuals to
maintain their health, independence and social contacts.
Health Promotion/Disease Prevention Program provides programs
and activities to help seniors stay fit and healthy. Includes exercise
equipment, exercises led by trained staff, health screenings, blood
pressure checks, educational programs to promote healthy lifestyles.
Public Information provides public information of importance to
elderly persons, changes in Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.,
also includes schedule of events and activities and information on special
events for the elderly.
Resident Repair/Renovation provides for home repairs and/or home
maintenance to persons 60 years and older who own their own homes;
includes adaptations for homes of handicapped older individuals, such as
wheelchair ramps, safety bars, small porches and steps, other repairs as
deemed necessary for the safety and well being of the individual and when
funding allows for such repairs and/or modifications.

Is there a cost for services?
A:
Moderate fees are charged on a sliding scale basis, according to
income, for in-home services. People whose income is near or below
poverty level are not charged a fee. Some transportation
services are based on sliding scale as well.

Who is eligible for
transportation services?
A:
People 60 years of age and older or persons who have a disability
who need specialized transportation for wheelchairs and other
assistive devices.
Q:
Will I be able to take
someone with me when I have a doctor appointment?
A: You may take a family member or friend with you when
you use our transportation services. We encourage someone to
be with you to assist you if needed.

What days are meals
served at the senior center?
A: Hot noon-time meals are served on Monday and Thursday
of each week excluding holidays.

Who is eligible for
home repair/renovation?
A: Persons who are 60 years of age and older who own
their homes and who meet income eligibility guidelines established
by the state. Wheelchair ramps and other accessibility improvements
are priority services.
